These lovable and affectionate dogs are best suited to a Family environment ,interaction with their owner and family is the most important aspect of their life.They are not suited to an exclusive outdoor kennel existance.Bernese can adapt to any situation provided time is spent interacting with them daily.They adore children and are lifelong playmates and companions. A Bernese will give you a lifetime of Love, Devotion,and Loyalty.Their natural desire for Human Companionship ,demands a lifetime commitment,therefore ownership of a Bernese should not be taken lightly.
Bernese are usually very tolerant of other pets and livestock,they are not given to excessive barking,or hyperactive behaviour.They require regular exercise and stimulation,their coat needs regular brushing.
Bernese are easy to train,very intelligent with a sence of humour,they need to be near and to bond with people.Because they grow rapidly in their first year,you should exercise great care when your puppy is growing rapidly, any "rough and tumble " i.e.
running up or down stairs or jumping about should be avoided to protect their bones and joints. Their diet should also reflect their growth pattern,over feeding is not recommended.
